What, exactly, are you on?

Fashion designers, I'm lookin' at you. What in the name of
  • Michael Kors
  • is going on?

I've seen the Getty Images of the fall shows, and I'm NOT impressed.

    This is not the '80s.

I've already lived that. The skinny jeans, the shorts with tights,
  • bubble skirts
  • . . . that looked silly on me in junior high and high school.

I'm sure as hell not going to my next power meeting in ANY of this stuff.

Seriously, if you are going to redo an era, can we do
  • this
  • .

I wore a purple strapless bubble dress to a high school dance. I can't believe I'm actually admitting that. I shudder to think of it. But somehow, it's worse to see people wearing bubble skirts on the streets now.

Have leggings hit Springfield yet? They're all over the place here, and they don't look any better than they did in the '80s. If stirrup pants come back, I swear I'll have to fight not to laugh openly at people.

Leggings never freakin' left. This just justifies the fashion disasters walking around down here.

    Shudder.

I will not buy a bubble dress/skirt/whatever. In fact, I'm boycotting Ann Taylor Loft right now, because they seem to be following the look of Simon LeBon, circa 1982.

Ick. I was less than excited about skinny pants coming back. I'm only hoping at least Walmart and Target will continue stocking flared, boot-cut and other wide-leg styles for those of us less-than-fashion-forward thinkers. I can't imagine who in the real world could pull of the skinny pant anyway - just those toothpicks they call models nowadays.

And bubble skirts? Good grief. 'Nuff said.

I found great boot-cut jeans and pants recently at Macy's. Style & Co., $24.95 a pair. Available in Petites, too. Now that Macy's is everywhere, you'll probably find them nearby. Happy shopping!

I blame the bubble skirt disaster on Project Runway's fashion disaster Angela. I didn't wear them the first time, I'm not going to wear them now.

I might wear leggings under a skirt (non-bubble), just because leggings allow me to wear a skirt and do stuff with my feet without flashing the world. I saw a pair at the Gap today that looks just like a pair I had in seventh grade, complete with lace at the ankles. I was weirdly nostalgic.

Skinny pants are evil, unless you're skinny, of course. And really, is anyone skinny enough for skinny pants?

And speaking of bad fashion trends, I just read this in an interview with our girl Laura from Runway. Love her. Love her fashion sense. Want her to make me a new wardrobe, or at least my bridesmaid's dress for my sister's semi-formal, cocktail-ly wedding planned for next year.

Interviewer: What fad do you hope will die?
Laura Bennett: Oh my God, these low slung jeans. What is it with those and the buttcrack thing? I’m sorry, I understand that it reduces the amount of fabric that’s on your ass, and somehow somebody thinks that it makes your butt smaller. But, you know, I don’t see it looking good on very many people. And then 16-year-old girls and stuff, walking around with that muffin roll over the top of their jeans. They just don’t get it. I’ll be happy to see that look go away. I didn’t like it in the 70s and I don’t like it now.

    Amen, sister.

Laura rules. I want to be her friend. And I want her to come out with affordable design, ASAP, for those of us out there who agree with her.

I tell ya, it is hard to work on a college campus and not go up to them and say: "Um, you are too young to have a belly floppin' over the waistband. That doesn't look good to ANYONE!"

Skinny jeans looked good on me in high school. Three kids and nearly 20 years later, they'd look like shite. Assuming I could squeeze my childbirth-widened hips into 'em in the first place.
